Emiliouch - Swedes Season Stung |
|
The Swedes handily beat the Emilios the first round, but were suprised to see them in the losers bracket again this early. After a great game against the Hogs, the fans expected to see another great effort, but then again there were no fans this game. Early in the first, Smith jumps out to intercept a breakaway chance, only to have the deflected puck bounce to an Emilio who pounded it home. With the energy of a slug trapped in a beer can, the Swedes barely touched the puck for 2 periods. The Emilios came out in the second tough, but Smith made a huge save on a one timer from the slot. Barely registering with the sluggish Swedes, who continued to miss chances and give up the puck. Leaving the second 3-1, a Swede turnaround seemed within sight. Great efforts by Bingham and Jackson, started to perculate. Aditays knocks another home to bring the game within one, but even with an extra attacker the Swedes would get stuffed by the Emilioffense and Emiledefense. Smith pulled the Swedes poured everything they had but it was too little too late, the Electric Swedes - the hottest team entering the playoffs bow out to the Emilios in the Semis. Great season guys, we have a ton to build on and I am proud to have played such a great stretch behind you all. See ya in a few, after a few. |

The Electric Swedes had a tough road this week, playing late on Sunday and then Monday against the first place Hogs. Swedes limp out listless in the first, but the Swedish defense held pretty well. Leaving the first scoreless, the Swedes continued to dither, letting the Hogs swarm. Fast Frank Jackson put one past the huge hog goalie to go up one zip. A breakaway got through the low right side and the Hog tucked it into the top shelf where mother doesn't dust, to go 1-1. The third was an even match, with both sides trading opportunities, Smith coming up with some big money saves late. Some goals seemed contested as the NESHL officials got a bit lacksadasical with their effort to mind the goal line. But, later in the third, a mad goalmouth pass came to a long Hog, and Smith stacked the pads ala Johnny Vanbiesbrouck 88. Hitting Smith's right elbow but catching twine the Hogs rejoyced. A late push by the Swedes wasn't enough - Swedes lose 2-1 in a hot contest that kept the crowd rolling. All in all even a loss can't deny, the Swedes are for real in C4. Moving on to next week's suare with the loser of Pro Trans V. Vipers. |

An incredible first round effort by the Swedes, who entered the game down 2 of their top power forwards. Swedes go down 0-1 in the first, on a pass across the slot that managed to get past the line. Swedes looking sluggish throughout the first, skated in sand and couldn't find any rhythym. In the second, the Emilios pounced and began to pepper Smith with quality chances from the slot, only to be met with finer saves. The Emilios goalie came up with some amazing stuff, but some great second, third, and maybe fourth - efforts got the pick through by Bifulco. Swedes up by a goal began to feel the momentum shift their way, but a 5-3 stretch by the Emilios would put the defense to the test. Smith comes up with some breathtaking shiite off a left shoulder shrug from the slot. Swedes pour it on with heroic gritty efforts from Crosby the elder, with Crosby the junior chipping in on a goal. All in all a fantastic night but more tomorrow against the venerable Ice Hogs. Swedes win 4-1, I have the heat, Alberts has the meat for the grilling after tomorrow's 8:40. Who has the condiments? |

The #1 ranked Ice Hogs and E-Swedes go at it in the last regular season game of the year. Swedes spring out to an early lead, only to be countered by a Hog tally. A few costly giveaways cost the Swedes another goal, but the forwards kept the pressure on. In the second, Smith started dazzling the swedish faithful with some gnarly saves. Gann and Willis teamed up on a double behind the back shot that was simply scintillating. The game still tight however until the third, when the defense stiffened up and the offense got on a roll, led by a breakaway by Aditays. All in all the first place and highly touted Hogs got tied by pure Swedish hussle. Half of the third the Swedes kept the puck in the Hog end, their goalie bereft of help. Swedes smoke em 7-2, heading into the playoffs having whipped the two best teams in C4. |

Swedes and Rats take to Rink 5 on a soggy New England evening. Swedes feeling peppy after their thrashing of the Pro Trans Bulldogs (retaliation dig - count it), came out dull and listless. A giveaway in front led to a man all alone, and another pass to the slot got jambed in, to leave the first 2-0. The Rats' goalie making some marquee saves, kept the Swedes off the board. But the Swedish hussle soon returned as the nordic mojo got back into gear. Aditays knocks in a breakaway chance by chance. Swedes continue the pressure in the second, leaving 2-2. In the third, penalties starting racking up, but Pat Gamm nailed a shot from the low left to go up 3-2, for three - three unanswered goals ahh ahh ahh (count voice). The Rats did pressure in the third, but good defense and restauraunt quality goaltending by Smith kept them scoreless. Aditays decided to make the game interesting in the dying seconds by passing it out in front, only to be deflected an RCH pass the right post. All this on a night when Ricky Martin came out. I will never be able to listen Living La Vida Loca the same way. Swedes win 3-2 primed for their date with the Ice Hogs next week. |
